Anna Castillo

Flamenco | Choreography | Dance

Anna Castillo (she/her), based in Berlin, works as a freelance dancer and choreographer in Germany and Spain.
Her works concentrates on the combination between traditional flamenco technique and contemporary methods, which manifests itself in her dance.

Tablao

On the basis of rhythm – the magic thread – cante, guitar and dance twist and turn: they create each other, inspire, answer, contrast or accompany each other… Improvisation is the part of flamenco that cannot be found in precise choreography of a theater or an audiovisual show, and that can only be experienced in a Tablao.

Theatre

Beyond the Flamenco stage, Anna Castillo is an active participant in contemporary theater productions.

In addition to creating her own pieces, Anna collaborates also with choreographers like Joy Alpuerto Ritter and Marco Di Nando, enriching her artistic repertoire for theater and dance.

Film

Next to dancing on stage, Anna loves to collaborate with filmmakers.
Showing her dance and artistic view through the lens of other artists is always exciting for her.

2020 she took part in the short movie “SALIDAS”, a fictional dance film which tells the story of Giralda, an undertaker who accompanies deceased human beings into their afterlife.

Choreography

Anna’s choreographic work reflects a blend of Flamenco tradition and contemporary dance forms.

She studied Choreography in Barcelona and currently pursuing her Master’s degree in “Tanzwissenschaft” (Dance Studies) in Berlin.

Teaching

Teaching plays a big role in Anna’s career.
It’s very important for her to share the rich traditions and techniques of Flamenco to others.
She gives regular classes at “Centro Flamenco” in Berlin and delights in offering workshops to share her expertise with others.
